EcoBright Solution LLC: Save Energy and Cut Costs with LED Lighting Upgrades in Illinois
Location for LED upgrades: Illinois
Energy Supplier: ComEd
Program Used: ComEd Energy Efficiency Program
Introduction
Drawing from years of experience in the lighting industry, Dustin E. Rinker, CEO of EcoBright Solution LLC, presents this article based on a recent project in Illinois. The goal of the project was to demonstrate significant energy savings, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced lighting efficiency through energy-efficient LED lighting. These outcomes reflect EcoBright Solution LLC’s mission: “Bright Solutions, Green Results.”
Existing vs. Proposed LED Upgrades
Existing Fixtures: Originally, the facility used 200 T12 fluorescent lamps, with each lamp consuming around 75 watts. A ballast factor of 0.88 led to higher energy consumption, totaling 39,600 kWh annually. The T12 system, once a standard option, had a shorter lifespan of just 20,000 hours. Frequent maintenance was necessary, and the system produced extra heat due to magnetic ballasts.

Proposed Fixtures: The project upgraded the 200 fluorescent lamps to T8 LED tubes with high-efficiency drivers. LED lamps use only 20 watts each, bringing total energy consumption down to 12,000 kWh annually. This change resulted in annual energy savings of 27,600 kWh, translating to cost savings of $2,760 based on ComEd’s rates. LED lighting also has a longer operational lifespan, reaching 50,000 hours, which reduces maintenance needs while providing consistent, flicker-free light.

Energy Savings and Environmental Impact
The upgrade not only provided immediate financial savings but also contributed to a more sustainable future:
Energy Reduction: With the installation of LED fixtures, the facility saw a reduction of 27,600 kWh in annual energy usage.
Cost Savings: At ComEd’s rate of $0.10 per kWh, the energy savings amounted to approximately $2,760 per year.
Environmental Impact: By switching to LED lighting, the facility reduced its carbon footprint significantly, contributing to lower greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the new LED lamps are free of hazardous materials like mercury, making them a more environmentally responsible choice compared to the old fluorescent lamps.
